New York is getting bigger and the nightlife is aimed to please the tourists, but there are still plenty of nightlife for the locals and travelers. So many Jazz legends made their name in NYC that it is well known for it's high quality Jazz, people flock to NYC in order to play Jazz in the city where it is really kicking off. There are some of the best and exclusive dance clubs in the world. There are a lot of lounges so there are plenty of places in New York for you to find a nice comfy place to sit, drink, and listen to music. If you want to spend the night laughing then you can head to one of the countless comedy clubs where famous comedians frequent the stages, or perhaps you could catch a show on Broadway or a concert from one of your favorite musicians.
When we arrived in NYC it was Friday night so we started looking for a nightclub that was considered cool, someone recommended Ace of Clubs Nightclub, it cost us $40 t get there. It did not seem to be what we were looking for. The music was really loud and the drinks cost a lot, although I'm sure many people would love it for a big night out. We decided that we wanted to find something else so we went back to our hotel.
When we got back to our hotel we ask the desk clerk if she could recommend a good nightclub and she told us to check ploose which is a directory for new NYC nightclubs and location. When we typed in New York City nightclubs and it showed us a bunch on the map. Since we had spent so much on our first trip for a cab we decided that we would go to the closest one that was having specials on drinks. There were video tours on the 'ploose' site which we had watched before we made our mind up, and when we actually go to the club it was precisely as it had seemed on the tours. We started the night off with some 'grey goose' and ended up having a wonderful time. The nightclub was called 'The Pink Elephant' and I recommend you check it out if ever in NYC. After more hours and more drinks than is healthy we went back to the hotel and crashed out.
The next day was consumed by us being classic tourists, we wandered around Manhattan, eat in a few restaurants at random, headed to 5th avenue and eventually got back to our hotel as night rolled in completely burnt out. We checked out ploose again for something a bit more relaxed and located a nice lounge bar that wasn't too far from our hotel. It was called the Sapphire Lounge. It was nicely decorated in a traditional way, it kind of felt like you were having a get-together in your own front room. The red curtains were great! There was this hip DJ there playing some house music and the prices were very reasonable. We highly recommend it.
When Sunday turned up we were interested in finding a good sports bar to watch the Football in, so once again we took advantage of 'ploose'. It seemed to recommend we go to 'Proof NYC' so we headed there and boy were we happy we did. The TV was wonderful, it was so big the game looked great on it, it was taller than me and I'm not short. The bar itself was nicely decorated with comfortable hardwood floors and a gorgeous scarlet color on the walls. The beer were on sale that day so we lucked out. We ordered some food and sipped our drinks enjoying the last day in New York City.
We still had time before we left town to stop at a jazz bar called the "Blue Note". As a big fan of Jazz I can say I was hugely impressed, it's the best Jazz bar I have ever been in and if you also like Jazz then missing out on this place if you are ever in NYC is a criminal offense. The musicians were outstanding, the bar itself wasn't too crowded and was wonderfully decorated.
In other words New York City has a VERY wide selection of entertaining things to do. Our trip was only short so we didn't have time to sneak in a trip to Broadway or the Opera, although there is always next time!
Have a great time in NYC and stay safe.
